The New Pioneers
for Brass Band (and optional Organ) The New Pioneers was commissioned by the Black Dyke Band for the reopening of Rochdale Town Hall in 2024. The band performed at the opening ceremony of the Hall in 1872, and are recognised as one of the finest brass bands in the world. The New Pioneers was inspired by the Rochdale Pioneers, an important co-operative movement founded in 1844 to promote fairness in society. The music reflects a modern spirit of renewal, with a restless energy, a jazzy character and hard-won optimism. It has an optional organ part and can be performed with or without it. Premiered 5th March 2024 - Rochdale Town Hall Black Dyke Band, Nicholas Childs (conductor), Darius Battiwalla (organ) Duration: 6 mins Listen to the piece here |
