Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: The Nutcracker Suite
for Chamber Orchestra CONTENTS: 1. Overture miniature 2. March 3. Spanish Dance 4. Arabian Dance 5. Chinese Dance 6. Russian Dance 7. Waltz of the Flowers Tchaikovsky's ballet score The Nutcracker is one of his most loved and frequently performed works, especially at Christmas time. It features many well-known melodies and characterful pieces, including these seven extracts. This arrangement aims to create a full orchestral picture from a smaller ensemble, enabling the piece to be performed in smaller venues without enormous financial constraints. Instrumentation: flute (doubling piccolo), oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, percussion (timpani, triangle, cymbals, castanets, tambourine, glockenspiel), harp, violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, double bass (12 or 13 players) |
A larger string section can be used if preferred. Any combination of movements can be performed. Harp is used only in the Waltz of the Flowers, and the Suite can be performed without one using movements 1-6 only.
