Maurice Ravel - Piano Concerto in G major
for Piano Solo and Chamber Orchestra

Maurice Ravel (1870-1934) composed his Piano Concerto in G major in 1929-1931. It is a work full of colour and brilliance, displaying influences of jazz and Spanish music, as well as Ravel's mastery of melody in the slow movement. Ravel wanted to compose a display piece with the lightness and optimism of Mozart and Saint-Saëns. His original scoring was relatively light, with much use of solo writing and a small wind and brass section. This arrangement is for chamber orchestra and is the complete work unabridged.

Instrumentation: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, percussion (2 players: timpani, snare drum, bass drum, triangle, suspended cymbal, tam-tam, whip, wood block), solo piano, harp, violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, double bass (strings must be a minimum of 2, 2, 2, 2, 1)
