Sergei Rachmaninoff - Symphony No. 3
for Chamber Orchestra

Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) composed his Third Symphony in 1935-1936. It was composed in Switzerland and first performed in the USA where the composer generally lived and worked as a concert pianist. The piece displays Rachmaninoff's trademark Romantic expression, melodic gift and harmonic richness, as well as a strong Russian influence. It also has a more transparent, lighter scoring than earlier works. This arrangement is for chamber orchestra and is the complete work unabridged.

Instrumentation: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, percussion (2 players: timpani, triangle, cymbal, snare drum, tambourine), harp, violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, double bass (strings minimum 2, 2, 2, 2, 1)
