Piano Songs

Iain Farrington, piano

Piano solo arrangements of works by Gershwin, Rachmaninov, ABBA, The Beatles and many more

Piano Songs - "You must sing with your fingers", so Chopin supposedly said to a piano pupil of his. Since the development of the piano during the 19th century, pianists and composers have always sought to make the piano sing. This album presents a wide variety of song-style piano works from the 1830's to the present day. From classic original works to stunning new virtuoso arrangements, this is an exciting exploration of song-inspired piano music. The repertoire covers a broad range of Romantic, jazz and popular styles, reinvigorating a medium that was made famous through Liszt. This special art of piano transcription is explored afresh in this unique collection.
