Hans Christian Lumbye - Champagne Galop
for Chamber Orchestra Hans Christian Lumbye (1810–1874) was known as the "Strauss of the North", and he composed a number of highly successful dance pieces. He wrote his Champagne Galop (Champagne galoppen) in 1845 to celebrate the second anniversary of Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens. It is one of the most popular pieces of Danish orchestral music, with a colourful orchestration. Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, 2 Percussion (snare drum, glockenspiel, champagne cork), Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Violoncello, Double Bass (14 players) A larger string section can be used.
