In the Swamp by the Light of the Moon
for Narrator and Symphony Orchestra

In the Swamp by the Light of the Moon is a piece for narrator and orchestra, based on the book by Frann Preston-Gannon. The story tells of a lonely frog looking for friends to sing with. The orchestral score is in the musical story-telling tradition of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, depicting the action in a lively and engaging manner while underpinning the text. The various animals are depicted by particular instruments with their own musical themes, and there is a large amount of audience participation. It was commissioned by the Royal Northern Sinfonia for their Christmas family concerts.
