A Silent Night Lament
for String Quartet or String Orchestra Franz Gruber's popular carol Stille Nacht (Silent Night) has been arranged and performed in countless versions since its composition in 1818. This piece takes the essence of the melody and transforms it into a lament. It is a reflection on the other side of the Christmas story, as Herod orders the youngest children in Bethlehem to be killed (the Massacre of the Innocents).
