Give me Jesus for Choir
Give me Jesus is a traditional African-American spiritual. In this arrangement, it is a peaceful and passionate gesture towards faith in humanity, and a farewell to our loved ones. It was originally the last movement of An Old Belief, a seven movement work for choir and organ. The work was composed shortly after the death of my mother, and the work deals directly with the subject of religious faith in times of crisis. It was first performed by Twickenham Choral Society, conducted by Christopher Herrick on 25th March 2013.

Give me Jesus (3'55)
Oh I heard my mother say,
Give me Jesus.
You may have all this world,
Give me Jesus.
In the morning when I rise,
Give me Jesus.
You may have all this world,
Give me Jesus.
Oh when I come to die,
Give me Jesus.
You may have all this world,
Give me Jesus
