Street Party
for symphony orchestra and optional chorus Street Party is a joyful and riotous orchestral celebration in a colourful carnival atmosphere. It captures something of the energy, rhythm and fun of outdoor parties. The piece is also a miniature guide to the orchestra, and showcases the virtuosity of the individual players with jazz-inspired solos and technical brilliance. An optional chorus part adds a catchy sing-along element. The middle section is a quiet nocturne with bluesy trumpet solos, before the party picks up again. However, the celebrations are soon to be interrupted... |
Street Party was composed for the 2025 Manchester Classical festival and was performed by an orchestra consisting of players from the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, RNCM, along with the ENO Chorus and Hallé Choir, conducted by Alpesh Chauhan.
