Johann Strauss II - Violetta
for Chamber Orchestra Johann Strauss II (1825 – 1899) was known in his lifetime as “The Waltz King”, who composed a vast number of dances, as well as operettas and ballet. Violetta is a French polka that was written in 1881. It is based on motifs from Strauss's operetta Der lustige Krieg (The Merry War), in which Violetta is one of the main characters. Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Harp, 2 Percussion (timpani, triangle, snare drum), Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Violoncello, Double Bass (15 players) A larger string section can be used.
