Johann Strauss II - Im Sturmschritt
for Chamber Orchestra Johann Strauss II (1825 – 1899) was known in his lifetime as “The Waltz King”, who composed a vast number of dances, as well as operettas and ballet. Im Sturmschritt (By Storm) is a fast polka that was written in 1871. It is based on motifs from Strauss's operetta Indigo und die 40 Räuber (Indigo and the 40 robbers), and has a similar quality to Offenbach's famous Can-Can. Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Harp, 2 Percussion (timpani, cymbals, snare drum), Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Violoncello, Double Bass (15 players) A larger string section can be used.
