Johann Strauss II - Egyptian March
for Chamber Orchestra

Johann Strauss II (1825 – 1899) was known in his lifetime as “The Waltz King”, who composed a vast number of dances, as well as operettas and ballet. The Egyptian March (Egyptischer Marsch) was composed in 1869 for the opening of the Suel Canal in Port Said, Egypt. It is full of exotic and colourful percussion effects, as the march approaches from the distance, reaching a noisy climax before fading away.

Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Harp, 2 Percussion (cymbals, bass drum, tambourine, triangle, snare drum), Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Violoncello, Double Bass (15 players)​
