Postlude on 'Carol of the Bells'
for Organ Solo

Mykola Leontovych (1877-1921) was a Ukrainian composer, conductor and teacher. He composed numerous choral works inspired by Ukrainian folk music, including 'Shchedryk' from around 1916. It was a song about the New Year that subsequently became the 'Carol of the Bells' in an English translation. This short organ piece is based on the four note motif, and it develops the theme across various keys and moods, ending in a joyful character. It was composed for Anna Lapwood's UK Christmas organ tour in 2025.
