Jacques Offenbach - Barcarolle
for Chamber Orchestra

Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) composed his final opera The Tales of Hoffmann (Les contes d'Hoffmann) in 1881. One of its most famous sections is the Barcarolle, originally a duet for soprano and mezzo soprano called Belle nuit, o nuit d'amour. It was subsequently reworked as an orchestral piece without voices. This is an arrangement for chamber ensemble, perfectly suited to the delicacy and lightness of the piece.

Instrumentation: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trombone, harp, triangle, violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, double bass (13 players)
