Off the Ground
for Organ Solo Off the Ground is a based on a four note 'ground bass' theme. It is a technique often used by Baroque composers, of which J. S. Bach's organ Passacaglia in C minor is one of the most famous. The ground bass theme is heard in the pedals after a short introduction, and is repeated 50 times with varying material above. There is a strong blues and jazz quality to much of the music. It was composed in June 2024 for Christopher Herrick, as a tribute to his 50 years as Musical Director and Conductor of Twickenham Choral.
